This Retired Staff Sergeant is Getting an Amazing Second Chance

Article written by Free health remedies

The first person on Earth to receive a robotic, mind-controlled hand is staff sergeant James Sides. Sides is retired, and he was wounded during his second tour of Afghanistan by an IED he was trying to disarm. The wounded man returned home to a gift from the Alfred Mann Foundation.

The Foundation, which plays a central role in the development of Alfred Mann Institutes across America, is also charged with outreach for the purpose of furthering the use of robotics and prosthetics. They located Sides and asked him to participate in a new program. This voluntary program began with sensors embedded within Sides’ forearm. Those sensors read his muscle movements, which then inform the hand of how to move. He can turn his wrist and close his palm, all thanks to the power of robotics.

Sides is the first person in the world to receive this stunning piece of technology, but he is part of a group of seven individuals who all received prosthetic technology. This test will provide some usage data, but it might also provide some clues about the lifespan of the device and the costs to use and maintain it. If successful, we might see new prosthetic technology attached to those who need it most.

It’s hard to bring back the life that these people have lost, but prosthetics is a major step in the direction. Steve Doctrow, of Rogers & Cowan, is working with the Foundation to bring attention to this important medical breakthrough in the hopes that testing will continue. Deployment is possible, and that means lives saved.

Buying New or Refurbished: Your Guide to Blenders

Article written by Best fat burning guide

Summary: Blenders can be one of the best buys you can make for yourself, and you will find they do a lot around the kitchen too.

Many people are tempted to buy a brand new Blendtec blender, but that may not be the best route for every consumer. If you’re choosing between a new or refurbished model, read on for what you need to know.

What “New” Really Means

New Blendtec and Vitamix blenders offer a surprising amount of features. Vitamix, for instance, has a line of blenders with automated settings for perfect cuts every time. Blendtec has taken the automated route for years, but they offer models that are extremely quiet. The Stealth, for instance, is nearly silent.

In that respect, buying new offers a serious advantage. A refurbished vitamix isn’t going to have the level of automation that a brand new unit might, but you can still accomplish the same tasks with a smaller price tag.

Blender recipes will work the same, regardless of whether you’re using one button or manually jumping between different settings. You’ll also notice that you can get a more precise blend, chopping veggies just so or making the proper consistency for a smoothie, when you begin experimenting with manual settings. Plus, not every refurbished unit is old enough to have missed out on the automation trend. They just may not offer the options current models do.

Final Thoughts

If you’re just getting into the world of juicing, trying to live a healthy life style, refurbished may be the way to go. The lower price tag is easier to justify, and it really will make up for its costs when you can accomplish more in less time.

Exploring the Chemical Origins of Life

Article written by Taste for health

Summary: Trying to trace the chemical origins of life is no easy task.

It’s difficult to try and trace the chemical origins of life. There is first the question of defining what is or is not “life,” but there are also multiple theories that all make valid points. We can’t really say with certainty that life began this way or that way, but we can take some educated guesses based on what we currently know about medical science.

RNA

DNA is the building block of life, at least that’s what most of us hear in high school biology class. That’s true, but nature has a need for RNA polymers too. RNA can store information, just like DNA, and it is instrumental in the utilization of certain proteins in the body.

Therefore, we can guess with some level of certainty that the first “life” on earth contained RNA, or was made up of ribo polymers with RNA inside. Without these key components, it would be impossible to form peptide bonds.

We can also guess that the first living cell had the ability to replicate itself, and store information in the form of molecular interactions. In laymans terms, life’s persistence and our ability to inherit traits would be null and void without these abilities.

In fact, it’s possible that the earliest forms of life were constructed entirely of RNA. While we cannot say for certain that life had this appearance, or these characteristics, we do know that RNA played an instrumental role in the development of all life on this planet.

DNA Primers Explained

Written by: The Midland Certified Reagent Company

Summary: Primers help initiate reactions that are crucial to modern medicine.

When researchers want to test a cure, they are hoping for a particular reaction. That reaction will tell them what they need to know about how the cure might react to a patient’s DNA. It may also tell doctors what kind of diseases a patient may have, or potentially develop.

These reactions don’t just occur, there needs to be some kind of primer. A polynucleotide can help initiate a reaction through the binding of complementary pairs. That initial molecule that sparks the reaction is called a DNA primer.

What are Primers?

Primers are like shorter sequences of nucleic acids, usually comprising only around 10 base pairs. When synthesis occurs naturally, the body relies on a short strand of RNA to replicate. Primers add extra pairs to a DNA strand, which helps catalyze a bond.

Each primer is hybridized for a specific pairing, so the reactions are possible only under ideal conditions.

Uses

Primers find many uses in DNA sequencing. Primers are used to begin the Sanger chain termination reaction, which is still used today as a method of verifying next-generation calculations as accurate. Primers need to match the DNA molecules they are meant to amplify, and they are used in a polymerase chain reaction as a kind of probe that helps identify which DNA fragments were changed by the PCR.

Final Thoughts

Primers make a wide variety of reactions possible. They are useful in diagnosis, but helpful in research too. Primers are sometimes used for RNA synthesis, not just for DNA synthesis.

Simple Trick to Combat Negativity

Written by Heather Richards

Are you determined to stay positive no matter what life throws your way? People who are optimistic tend to be happier, healthier, and more open to the bounty that life has to offer. While there are many reasons to stay positive, life doesn’t always give us the best environment to foster our positive attitudes.

Sometimes the people around us can bring negativity. The things they say or do can cause us to doubt our own dreams and desires. So how do you stop the pessimistic people in your life from poisoning your dreams? It might be easier than you think. Dr. Eric Amidi offers the following trick to help people combat negativity:

Do not fear negativity. According to Dr. Amidi, before you can stop negative people from bringing you down it’s important to stop fearing it. Dr. Eric Amidi says that the fear of negativity will actually attract more of it in your life. This is because your subconscious gets the message that you’re afraid of it and will see it as a threat or obstacle to getting what you want in life.

So how do you stop being afraid of negativity? By not fighting it. Instead, recognize it, neutralize it, and “turn it into positivity.” This means that it’s important to first detect the negative feelings or thoughts. Instead of denying them or trying to block them out of your mind, accept them for what they are. Next, get ready to bring positivity into your life. To learn more how you can prevent negativity from dampening your dreams, follow the writings of Dr. Eric Amidi.

Valuable Tips on How to Achieve Your Goals

goals-jump

Written by Heather Richards

Most of us have goals, whether it is losing weight, getting a better job, or graduating from college. Some of us want to start a family, while others want to learn how to cook. Unfortunately, most of us lose steam and can’t focus on our goals long enough to achieve the things we want in life. This is especially true for long-term goals.

But there are ways you can stay focused and get the desires of your heart. If you’re having trouble reaching your goals, you’re not alone. Here are a few tips on how to set and reach your goals:

Focus on One Goal at a Time

Many of us have multiple plans in our minds at the same time. We set our goals and try to find time and energy for each one, always balancing various plans. But there is another method we can use that helps us reach our goals faster. This method is focusing on one goal at a time.

Dr. Eric Amidi often writes about this strategy and says that we should focus on one desire or goal first. In a recent blog post the quantum physicist uses the example of the cheetah’s hunting technique to illustrate his point. He says that a cheetah has the ability to focus on a single gazelle and will use all of its energy to run after and capture that one gazelle, even if he runs next to other gazelles during the chase. Dr. Eric Amidi adds that chances are you will learn a lot about yourself by reaching the first goal and you can use the insight to help you reach the next one.

Enjoy the Process

One of the problems with setting goals is that a goal is not realized until a certain time in the future, it’s a place you haven’t reached yet. For this reason many people who set goals are simply not happy or satisfied until they’ve reached their goals. It is this unhappiness that causes many to give up on their dreams.

The key to staying happy until you reach your goal is to enjoy the journey or process along the way. According to an article in Psychology Today written by James Clear, the solution is to “commit to a process, not a goal.” He writes that many people feel as though they’re not good enough until they reach their goal, but this is just not the case. With this mindset, people avoid feeling happy until “the next milestone is achieved.”

This point of view is further explored by Dr. Eric Amidi who also agrees that we should not separate our goals from the process or journey it takes to achieve them. He suggests that the goal and the process are the same.

The Experimental Nature of RNA Synthesis

Written by: The Midland Certified Reagent Company

Summary: Synthetic DNA allows scientists to recreate certain sequences within a lab to test how they might fight disease.

DNA, the building block of life, comes configured with extremely specific traits that define everything about life forms. DNA synthesis allows scientists to manipulate those building blocks in specific combinations. Most people think “designer baby” when they hear this concept for the first time, but there are important medical research studies that require specific DNA sequences in order to test cures and remedies.

Synthesis

Synthesis is a natural process. DNA and RNA synthesis occurs within the body to form new proteins and new DNA molecules. Cracking the genome has enabled scientists to view disease and disorders in a whole new light. Combined with artificial synthesis, scientists are able to study very specific conditions that are related to diseases.

Oligo Synthesis

This process must be extremely precise, and is therefore automated. Oligonucleotide synthesis only deals with a defined chemical sequence, but this can be an advantage. Creating an entire DNA polymer is time consuming and expensive. It is still performed today, but oligos synthesis allows scientists to maintain a tight control over a desired sequence.

Uses

When a researcher has a theory about a disease, he or she has to try and recreate those conditions in a laboratory in order to study that theory in further detail. Patients with the disease may exist, but what if the researcher wants to hone in on people with a specific strand of DNA? In these situations, it’s not always feasible to track down patients that match the specific criteria. Synthetic DNA can act as a springboard, so to speak, giving the research team something they can work with to cure a disease.

Dr. Eric Amidi Reveals Trick to Staying Positive

Written by Heather Richards

By now most of us know the importance of staying positive. A positive outlook on life not only brings you happiness but also blesses the people around you. Someone who is positive is optimistic, always focusing on the good things in life instead of dwelling on the bad. But remaining positive on a regular basis can be challenging, especially if you live or work with people who try to bring you down. Whether you’re experiencing a storm in your life or dealing with negative people, it’s still possible to stay positive. In fact, some people even believe it’s the key to getting what you want and need in this life.

In a recent blog post titled How to Switch to Positivity, Dr. Eric Amidi unveils a simple trick on how to stay positive despite being surrounded by negative people. (Dr. Amidi is the author of the ebook “The Secret Behind the Secret,” and he often writes about the Law of Attraction.) Part of what he shares in the blog is something I struggle with: the fear of negativity. Dr. Eric Amidi writes that it’s important not to fight or fear negativity. Instead, he writes, recognize it and learn how to “neutralize it and turn it into positivity.” According to Dr. Amidi, you must first master positivity within yourself before you can block the negativity of others or stop it from bringing you down.

So what’s his trick? Read his blog post to find out what Dr. Eric Amidi says. I will, however, reveal that it’s as easy as asking yourself or another person one question. Yup. Just one.

Get More Results By Taking It Easy

Written by Dr. Eric Amidi.

When we talk about putting “effort” into the manifestation process, it’s easy to think that we mean the type of hard work that you would associate with a desk job. This is far from the reality. The ability to focus your energy to get positive things to happen for you does require effort, but it’s far different than the “hard work” that you might associate with your job. In fact, it’s a paradox: the harder you work, the more likely it is that you’ll have to work even harder to achieve your success.

The most effective way to achieve success in the manifestation process is to impress positive influences on your subconscious mind which is not something you can simply do through force of will. In fact, your subconscious mind will often fight against attempts to influence it through maximum effort. Instead, you need to work a different approach and influence your subconscious through feelings.

Scarcity is driven by the feeling of trying too hard for something — you might even call it desperation. Consider what happens if someone is trying too hard to make a relationship work or to get hired for a job. Chances are that they won’t be successful.

In order to impress positive feelings on your subconscious mind, you have to fight against the urge to solve the problem through exertion. Instead, you need to let your subconscious become taken by the powerful feelings of positive energy that you are creating. This will lead to feelings of abundance that can only mean great things for the rest of your life.

How to Lose Weight Fast

Written by Paleo Forever

Like most people, you could probably stand to lose some weight. Most of us definitely could. However, most people have had bad experiences trying to shed excess pounds in the past. They’ve found that it’s simply more work than it’s worth to try and get down to that ideal size as it either takes too long or it’s too hard to do.

Fortunately, there’s one weight loss plan that actually provides fast results. It’s worked for countless people before too and the best part is that you’ll begin seeing less weight on the scale almost immediately, which will work to keep you motivated.

First, you need to cut complex carbs from your diet. That means no more bread, oatmeal buns, cereal or anything else. For most people, this is the toughest part of the plan. But it’s essential and there’s some good news.

The good news is that you get to replace that staple with choices like bacon, eggs, butter, olive oil, coconut oil, seafood and other high fat options most of us have been led to believe are mad for us. Imagine enjoying guilty pleasures on a regular basis without having to feel bad about it.

Now, when it comes to exercise, give up hour long workout sessions and long runs. Instead, start lifting heavy weights for five reps. Then wait five minutes and do it again. Exercises that will work include bench press, deadlifts and squats. Do each of these once a week.

The above may sound unconventional, but it will help you burn fat fast.
