How to Make Workouts More Habitual

Laziness is something that comes naturally. In order to beat this, it’s important that you maintain proper habits.

gym-habitualIt’s easy to get caught in the whirlwind of workouts that you perform almost on a nightly basis. Furthermore, it’s easier to become complacent and stick with what you know and do best during your routine. For instance, once you’ve become accustomed to a certain type of exercise, the strive to increase the weight that you lift slowly starts creeping into the back of your mind. But, with enough dedication and motivation, you can easily surpass this challenge and accelerate the muscle-building process. Here are some tips that will help you keep your workouts balanced and progressive.

Be Consistent

Varying your schedule to hit the gym hurts you more than it helps. While everybody is stuck with a busy schedule, it’s crucial that you maintain the proper discipline to hit the gym at the hours that you’re free. Continuing to do so will become habitual and you’ll begin seeing gains at a much quicker pace that you might be accustomed to.

Eat High-Quality Food

If you want your body to adapt to the workouts and reduce the overall fat, you’ll want to ensure that it gets the proper nutrients that high-quality foods have. Foods like rice, oatmeal, vegetables, tuna, beef, and other staple foods should be a regular part of your diet.

Sleep At Least 8 Hours per Night

The natural growth hormone in your body is maximized through a good night’s rest. Now, it’s safe to say that you’re not going to be getting 8 hours every single night, but it’s important that you try and fit in these hours to help build towards substantial muscle growth.

Skincare in Public Bathrooms

I’ve got some bad news for you.  It seems that those pesky hot air blowers that dry your skin are actually blowing viruses around everywhere. After reading an article in Fortune magazine today it really made me think about this. It’s funny how we invent new technology to take care of one issue such as wasting paper and killing more trees in exchange for dispersing viruses throughout a public bathroom to get everyone sick.

The new study was quoted as saying:

“virus(‘s) in the air even 15 minutes after someone used a jet dryer, at levels 100 times higher than after a paper towel was used.”

100x?  That’s pretty significant.  Of course when you dry your hands on a paper towel how much are you actually putting in the air?  Almost zero, so a hundred times nearly zero is still a small amount right?  But if you have one of these in a hospital it is a different scenario.  Any medical facility should prefer disposable wipes, towels, or napkins to ensure as much of the evil bacteria is removed and disposed away from the public.  A dryer for your skin in those areas can cause an issue.

If you are in a standard nail salon or cosmetics store your risk of high pathogens is much lower. So for the rest of the world your skin getting blown dry should continue to be the standard in bathrooms most everywhere.

Getting Closer to Beating Alzheimer’s

By Phineas Upham

Recently, medical scientists discovered something interesting about Alzheimer’s: it could be transmittable through medical procedures. Even everyday dental work could increase a patient’s chances of contracting Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s causes a build up of neurotoxic amyloid plaques, which eventually erodes the patient’s memory. If, they reasoned, there were some method to decrease that build up some function could be restored.

Scientists looked at various methods they could employ to try and reduce or remove that buildup. The problem is, it’s all very close the brain. If they make a mistake there, the patient could suffer in other ways. The treatment that came out of Australia focuses on using a non-invasive procedure that guides ultrasound into the brain. The pulses break the plaque down.

The plaque buildup isn’t like the kind on your teeth. It causes the neurofibrils in your brain to tangle, which misfires signals and leads to reduced function. Mice with this buildup were gauged to have recovered up to 75% of their full memory function.

Plaque buildup is only half the mystery, and the brain me be to blame for the other half. The brain uses proteins to repair itself, so the plaque causes the brain to cease that function. There is a drug currently in testing that allows for the production of the enzymes responsible for that repair. That could halt or reverse the long term effects some patients suffer from.

It’s likely that in the future, both of these methods will become part of the mainstream treatment regimen for Alzheimer’s patients.

The Benefits of Incorporating Strength Training Into Your Workout

Written by: Nick Di Ruscio

Strength training has long been thought of as a bodybuilding training regimen that focuses on increasing muscle mass. However, strength training can benefit your health, strengthen your bones, and help reduce your weight. The best part about it is that it can benefit people of all ages and can even help with issues such as heart conditions and arthritis.

Helps Keep Weight at Steady Levels

Strength training will undoubtedly add definition to your muscles and give you a fit and toned body. But, it also helps keep the weight off. Studies have shown that individuals that include consistent strength training into their workout regimen will increase the amount of calories burned during normal activities, therefore maintaining their current weight.

Increases Wellness Benefits

Strength training also offers an individual the wellness benefits of fitness. This means elevating your levels of endorphins, improving your mood, decreasing your stress, and even be as effective as medication when it comes to certain diseases. It’s an integral part of a healthy lifestyle and improves your overall quality of life.

Minimizes the Chances of Bone Strength Reduction

As you age, your bone and muscle strength tends to weaken. This is can result in cases like osteoporosis. In order to reverse this trend or contain it, one can incorporate strength training into their routine. In addition, it’ll make you stronger and fitter due to the contraction of the muscles against an object of resistance. So, all in all, you’ll become stronger and be in better shape.

A Glimpse inside the Hippocratic Corpus

By Samuel Phineas Upham

Hippocrates was one of the first people in the world to consider that disease was caused by something other than divine, which was a great deviation from thought held for thousands of years. Because of his breakthroughs in medical diagnosis, medical study and his lectures, the discipline of medicine has grown considerably. To the extent that the Hippocratic Oath is still spoken by the majority of medical schools in North America, some in Latin.

All of his works were collected into a great volume known as the Hippocratic Corpus, which is widely believed to be one of the only surviving works from the Library of Alexandria.

Inside, one can find a variety of writing styles and marks indicating that the manual was assembled over the course of time, not in one setting. It’s quite likely that as many as nineteen people helped to write this gargantuan work. The Corpus introduces several medical theories and ideologies popular during the time of Hippocrates, but it’s clear that its emphasis is on his work.

It contains entire textbooks written by Hippocrates, lecture notes from his top students, research on case studies, philosophical essays about medicine and medical practice, and various topics related to medicine and the discipline. All of this information is compiled in no particular order, so scholars took a great deal of time deciphering it in order to understand its implications.

Hippocrates didn’t get everything right, but what he did show medical academics was how to apply logic to a patient’s diagnosis. He also helped create the ideas, and possibly wrote the Hippocratic Oath. This Oath was once akin to law, and doctors could lose their entire practices for violating it.

3 Legendary body builders that will inspire your workout routine

Legends of the Sport

There have been many great bodybuilders in the last 100 years, but three names stand out from the rest. Eugene Sandow, often considered the father of bodybuilding, Charles Atlas, who made bodybuilding a popular pastime, and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even those who are simply looking to use the guidance of Nick Di Ruscio to add a bit of muscle tone and lose weight may find a great deal of motivation from the achievements of these men.

Arnold SchwarzeneggerArnold Schwarzenegger: The man who used bodybuilding as a springboard
Arnold Schwarzenegger is arguably the most famous bodybuilder of all time. Bodybuilding was only the start of his illustrious career in politics and the movies. He’s a perfect example of what one can do with hard work and ambition.

Eugene SandowEugene Sandow: The man who “created” bodybuilding
While people have worked to add muscle and increase definition for years, Sandow was one of the first to make bodybuilding a performance, to strike poses to highlight his musculature, and to organize competitions. He began performing around the turn of the century and was the undisputed star of the sport for many years. However, he eventually had to retire, like all athletes.

Charles AtlasCharles Atlas: The man who made bodybuilding a popular sport
Charles Atlas followed in Eugene Sandow’s footsteps as a luminary in the world of bodybuilding. While he was successful in bodybuilding competitions, his true innovation was in marketing. He was the first bodybuilder to be successful selling books about his workout regime.

Finding the Right Oligonucleotide Manufacturer

Read below to see how you can find the right oligonucleotide manufacturer.

Oligonucleotide synthesis is essentially the synthesis of nucleic acid fragments that results in defined chemical structures with purities of different sizes. When you’re looking for the most effective modified product for your oligo synthesis, you’re going to want to narrow down the companies that you’re going to work with by high quality services that they offer. Here are some key components that you’re going to want to keep in mind when shopping around.

Quality

Quality is obviously the main concern that you’re going to have because the only way that you can validate what they claim is through user reviews or testimonials. You’re not going to have a physical sample that you get to take an in-depth look at, rather an assortment of pictures put together by the company.

Be sure that the company is specific in their details to ensure that you get exactly what you want. For example, if they’re offering single stranded or double-stranded DNA, be sure that they give you the exact number of bases as they state. Additionally, check to see if they are analyzed and quantified by both mass spectrometry as well as UV spectrophotometry. There are also certain standards that should be met by the manufacturer such as specifications and formats of the oligos.

Customer Service

Oligonucleotide manufacturers that deal with such delicacy should have an informative group of customer service representatives. If you’re unsure about the purchase of a product or want to validate what you’re receiving, speak with their customer service representatives and ask them specific questions such as: the research grade, their formats, packaging, etc.

How to Find the Right Massage Parlor for You

Massage parlors have been popping up all over the country. With an expected growth of 19% in the next 5-10 years, you’re bound to see a couple of them during your drives. If you’re new to receiving a massage, then here is a good idea of what to expect during your first visit.

How to Find Your Parlor

One way to locate these massage parlors is by browsing local advertisements online. A majority of these massage parlors are run by women of Asian-descent. For example, if you were to look at your local listings you could find “Korean massage in New York.”

If you’re around an area where you see a massage parlor, you can also peek your head inside and inquire about the prices. You want to make sure that you’re getting the most out of your money. A price too high or too low can raise red flags, especially depending on what the place looks like. A clean, private facility is your best option for health and relaxation. So if you see want to receive a legitimate Korean massage in NYC, it’s best that you check with the establishment prior.

What to Expect

When you enter the massage parlor, you’ll be met by either one of the massage therapists or a receptionist. Take a look at the prices and services that are offered at the location to decide what type of massage you will want. You’re typically offered several choices, so don’t feel pressured to choose any one method. Most people go with the Swedish massage for their first time. It’s a deep tissue massage that aims to relieve you of any knots and stiffness that you have along your body.

Once you’ve decided on the type of massage that you want, you’ll be led into a dimly-lit room that is lit up by candles with soft, soothing music playing in the background. Be sure to ask what extras they offer. You might be able to take advantage of a table shower prior to the massage, or a fruit plate after. The masseuse will then enter your room and proceed with the massage.

At the end of your massage, tip them appropriately based on the service that you received. Many of these massage therapists focus on the knotted areas of your body and work out the kinks to help improve blood flow and reduce stress. Massages have been known to provide substantial health benefits and visiting these parlors will help improve your way of life.

A Rundown on the Oligonucleotide Labeling Processes

Written by: The Midland Certified Reagent Company

Oligo labeling continues to thrive.

During the oligo synthesis process, a method of tagging the nucleic acid is done through labeling. Depending on the type of modification and excess purification required, prices can be extremely high. Inflated prices have been the reason why labeling kits have been one of the preferred methods of application.

Some companies require the modified oligo quantity to be much higher than the unmodified versions therefore forcing researchers to purchase an excess amount – outweighing the total desire. The prerequisites outnumber the total qualitative need of the researcher and an alternate option is often considered.

There are several types of reagents available that efficiently label oligonucleotides. Most of them are used preferably to make small amounts of probes. Enzymatic methods and chemical methods differ in that they are used for different sizing scales. Enzymatic is more cost-friendly for smaller scales while chemical methods are acquiescent to large scales.

S_cerevisiae_septinsReagents that are fluorescent are important to stain or chemically label the oligonucleotides. Becoming fluorescent probes upon completion, they can detach antigens and assist in the cellular imaging process. A fluorescent label applied to an oligonucleotide essentially becomes a fluorescent probe. High content analysis of the oligo can therefore be verified and found.

Nucleic acids in need of purification or detection are modified through a tagging process. The result is a probe that can used to identify and separate various molecules. Advancements in technology have given researchers opportunities to thrive in their laboratories with low-cost – but efficient – methods of performing the labeling process with a stable success rate.

This Retired Staff Sergeant is Getting an Amazing Second Chance

Article written by Free health remedies

The first person on Earth to receive a robotic, mind-controlled hand is staff sergeant James Sides. Sides is retired, and he was wounded during his second tour of Afghanistan by an IED he was trying to disarm. The wounded man returned home to a gift from the Alfred Mann Foundation.

The Foundation, which plays a central role in the development of Alfred Mann Institutes across America, is also charged with outreach for the purpose of furthering the use of robotics and prosthetics. They located Sides and asked him to participate in a new program. This voluntary program began with sensors embedded within Sides’ forearm. Those sensors read his muscle movements, which then inform the hand of how to move. He can turn his wrist and close his palm, all thanks to the power of robotics.

Sides is the first person in the world to receive this stunning piece of technology, but he is part of a group of seven individuals who all received prosthetic technology. This test will provide some usage data, but it might also provide some clues about the lifespan of the device and the costs to use and maintain it. If successful, we might see new prosthetic technology attached to those who need it most.

It’s hard to bring back the life that these people have lost, but prosthetics is a major step in the direction. Steve Doctrow, of Rogers & Cowan, is working with the Foundation to bring attention to this important medical breakthrough in the hopes that testing will continue. Deployment is possible, and that means lives saved.
